A Functional Strength class generally starts with a whole-body warm-up that will often include some light jogging on the spot, agility exercises, squats, star jumps and more.
Once you are warm and ready to go you will be shown any one of a number of different kettlebell, bodyweight or plyometric exercises. Your coach will demonstrate the movements and give you feedback and pointers as you follow along.
Most exercises you will be shown are compound exercises (ie. working more than one muscle group at once) as this is generally how we apply our strength outside of the gym. Progression in these movements will come from pushing yourself to work with higher weights, more reps, longer times, etc.
Functional Strength classes are programmed to hit different muscle groups and different aspects of physical fitness every session. The classes are intended to be a complete strength and cardio training program and for recovery purposes, it is not recommended that you do weights outside of these classes if you are attending them regularly.
Paul Bai is a qualified and experienced personal trainer and a Muay Thai practitioner with a record of 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.
Paul has a holistic training philosophy and he holds a Cert III & IV in Fitness, he is a ZUU Master Trainer, Powerplate Level 2 and is currently undertaking a Precision Nutrition Course.
He has trained athletes for AFL, rugby, basketball and martial arts as well as training individuals for permanent weight loss and lean muscle gains. He holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Moses Bentley has over 15-years experience in competitive sport.
He is a qualified Personal Trainer holding a Cert III & IV in Fitness, he has completed the ASCA Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coaching course and the AIK Level 2 Kettlebell Training course.
Moses has experience as a professional mixed martial artist and has also spent time on the rugby field and training in other sporting interests such as tennis and surfing.
Pradeep Singh Sihag is a professional boxer with a combined amateur and professional record of 144 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw. He is the WBC Asian Middleweight Champion, Pan Asian Boxing Association Middleweight Champion and Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation Asian Middleweight Champion.
He has been ranked as the #1 middleweight in Australia, #1 in Asia and #13 in the World.
He is a four-time National Champion in India and was a star of the FOX reality TV show, The Contender.
Natalie Stiles has over 8 year’s experience as a personal trainer, holding her Cert III and IV in Fitness, Boxing, Animal Flow and Suspension Trainer Certs, Kettlebells Level 2, and Crossfit Level 1.
She is a former sprinter and long distance runner but now moves and exercises for the love of it. She has experience in Muay Thai, Crossfit, trail running, rock climbing and any other thing that looks fun and active.
She has helped everyone from weekend warriors to champion fighters prepare for specific events or just establish a healthy, balanced approach to exercise and lifestyle.
